Industrial Visit to Schneider Electric R&D Labs

The Department of Information Science and Engineering organized an industrial visit to Schneider Electric R&D labs, Bangalore on the 25th of October, 2019. A total of 30 students from the 5th semester along with the faculty coordinator Prof Vandana C.P and Prof. Bilvika had been a part of this Industrial visit.

The welcome speech was given by Mr. Sathish, Manager HR at Schneider Electric Bangalore. He explained the days agenda and roadmap. Students were made to follow the strict safety rules through a demonstrative video. Soon after the security and safety video demonstration, students were divided into two batches for the lab visits. Schneider Labs exhibited the prototypes and complete automation solution for Cement manufacturing Plant, Milk process management, water treatment plant. The automation team for these respective prototypes explained the process flow and demoed the control system. Schneider software solution PES and hybrid Distributed control System DCS were demoed to students which presented the power of automation and PIC logic system.

Schneider Struxure lab and CLG Consumer package group which is currently the most active packaging system in their European segment was visited by the students. Schneider Global security Lab, a global certification lab which provides the security certification to the products at industry par standards was explained. Students visited the Verification and Validation (V&V) Labs. SoMove software, controlled drives, ECOStruxure control expert XL test suites were demoed with hardware PLC. ATV process machine system validation along with 3rd party PLC drives integration was demoed.

Live demo of FTT, DTM dedicated controllers; device integration verification was explained by the respective team members. Students had a very interactive session with Schneider Electrics team members during the lab visits. Students got exposure to real time application testing with Selenium, QTP and Test complete platforms. Monitor software, SCADA, HMI usage was showcased.Schenider Electrics Internet of things ( IoT) nodes with ZigBee communication stack testing and simulation was explained. Schneider Electric’s Industry4.0 lab was the highlight, where the complete automation of grid system was demoed.

Soon after the Lab visit, Mr. Veerendra Vasamshetty, R&D Head Schneider Electric gave a motivational talk to the students. Students were advised to take up interdisciplinary projects and keep innovating. He also gave an insight to the students on how to make visibility in this competitive world. He explained the relevance of hardware in the digital era. Followed by this elaborate session, students had an interactive question answer discussion session with him. Students had a nice lunch at Schneider Electric canteen with their employees and got chance to interact with them.The team definitely gave the students a broader perspective on how they need to work towards developing a successful career.

Students learned the importance of automation in inter-disciplinary fields. This Industrial Visit was quite a remarkable one that allowed the aspiring engineers to have an experience of Industry 4.0 revolution. The buddy engineers understood the automation and digitalization of industry.
