Report on Ethical Hacking

As a part of the Cyber Safety Awareness Programs, Department of Information Science and Engineering department conducted the event “Ethical Hacking” during the QUANTUM_22 technical fest series. The workshop on Ethical Hacking was conducted on 9th Dec 2022 in MCA Lab1 and Lab2 with more than 82 participants across many colleges in Karnataka. The resource person Mr. Pavan Karthick M from Cloudsek is a subject expert in Cyber security domain. Cloudsek,  a contextual AI company that predicts Cyber Threats provides numerous solutions. Hence, the resource person could exhibit various real time use cases and case studies carried out in Cloudsek for student understanding and benefit.

The workshop started at 10am with a brief introduction, and welcome speech. Students were provided with internet connection on their laptops so that handon can be carried out. Also, lab computers were made available to carry out the experiments.

He explained the concept of ethical hacking, commonly referred to as penetration testing or whitehat hacking. Ethical hacking, a legal activity is carried out where in the target gives authorization for ethical hacking to be carried out. In order to improve system security, ethical hacking aims to find weaknesses from a hacker’s perspective. It is a component of a larger information risk management programme that enables continuous security upgrades. Ethical hacking can also guarantee that product security claims made by manufacturers are accurate. The scenarios related to network security was explained by the resource person. Information security refers to preventing illegal access, use, disclosure, interruption, and modification of information and information systems.

This workshop was aimed at bringing the cyber security awareness amongst the students and to make them carry out interesting case studies in the field of ethical hacking. Initial explanation was given by the resource person on various experiments. Followed by it

phishing to various website was carried out by students. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks and a token of appreciation was presented to the speaker.

Students expressed their satisfaction and pleasure by understanding the ethical hacking concepts and the various activities carried out with their handson experience.
